Oh you didn't fail at story telling, a picture is worth a thousand words.

I always figured Nightmare moon had created a sprawling death fortress with her 1000 years of free time.
Maybe not the death star, but something pretty spectacular.

Lock someone away for years with nothing but the requirements to sustain living and MINECRAFT.
You would have one heck of a crafting world afterwards.
